Christchurch

So our family trip to town was postponed to Sunday. It was another beautiful day and we got to enjoy taking Nana and Grandpa around the centre of town on the tram. You can get on and off as often as you like (the ticket is actually valid for 2 days). So we got to see a lot.
Ruth LOVED the tram rides (and so did Rachel - you can see her smile). :-)
Hannah was also seen to be bouncing herself up and down as we traveled and looked like she enjoyed it too.
At the "flee market" there was this man making amazing things with balloons. So Grandpa bought the girls beautiful balloons.
We headed to Burger King for lunch and Hannah fell asleep on the trip back to the centre of town. So Rachel showed the grandparents some of the museum while Dad took Ruth on the tram. She had been so excited after lunch about going back to the tram, that it was better to rather let her have a ride straight away.
Waiting for the next tram.
There was a beautiful Chinese display on in town. There were hundreds of LANTERNS set up. YES, that is a lantern. It must have been amazing to see at night (but there was no way we were waiting for the sun to go down).
They were quite impressive even during the day.
We had hoped to go punting on the river, but they were fully booked. Nana and Grandpa had gone over to have a cup of tea while they waited for us, but we ended up joining them for a milkshake instead. We will have to plan another trip some time as Rachel was so excited about this.
Another lesson - a "milkshake" in NZ is not a SA milkshake. You have to ask for a Thick Shake (or something) and then still it's not as full of ice-cream as an SA one. We will have to check out MacDonald's some time to see if they do the "real thing".
While at the shop waiting for the drinks I crossed over the road and let Hannah enjoy watching (and a little bit of chasing) the birds. The dear girl only wanted to wipe the bird, but he decided he was NOT interested.
We had a lovely day, but were all quite exhausted when we got home.
