Swiming pool

We have been very thankful for the swimming pool. It has been very hot. We had a very nice time at the pool this afternoon. There must have been over 60 people there.
Ruth has been very daring and gotten her head under a few times. She did not like the water going up her nose last time, so now she blocks her nose and closes her eyes when she wants to jump in to Dad. She does not quite jump on her own with this, but she had a lot of fun in the water with Dad.
Hannah enjoys sitting on the side of the pool with me. There is a nice area down the long side where the water laps over, so it's almost like sitting at the sea with small waves coming past. She had a great time looking at everyone.
Rachel did get her head under the water last summer, but has been nervous again to get under. When we were visiting our friends in Ohakune, the mother told me that she is the type of person that needs to be given her own time to try something new. She does not do well when "encouraged" to do something. So I have had to remind myself often that this is the kind of person that Rachel is too. So I worked out how to help her. I told her that if she wanted to go to swim week again in January (she enjoyed it last year) then she will have to on her own learn how to get her head under the water. One of the "teachers" had actually come over to Rachel today and encouraged her to get her head under but Rachel was just pulling away. So I told her that if she was still not getting her head under, there would be no point in swim week. All they would be doing would be trying to get her head under. So only if she gets the courage up to do it on her own, will we "sign her up" for the week.
Well, it was not 5 minutes later that Rachel got her head under. She then went over to the teacher to show her. A little while later the other "teacher" came over and asked if Rachel was going to be a part of swim week this year. I could say "yes".
Well done Rachel.
