Birthday treats

My first treat was having the girls make sushi for lunch. Ruth managed a bit but it will be easier when her hands are a bit bigger.
Good job girls.

The next treat was having our neighbour Val come over to take some photos for us. We don't often get a photo of just the two of us and it was nice to have someone nice and creative taking it for us.
Val has loads of flowers in her garden but unfortunately we don't have many to choose from in ours. These climbing rose bushes worked nicely though.
What a lovely idea to have Brendon with the wood behind him. A nice manly background. :-)
And the other big treat was this chocolate mousse cake.
I found the recipe and made it 4 years ago for my birthday cake.
It is a wonderful treat with 1 kg dark chocolate and 1 litre of cream. With us getting fresh milk now I did not even need to buy separate cream but could just use cream from the milk. The only other ingredients being 8 eggs, 3/4 cup sugar (I used Xylitol) and 2 Tbs of butter. I love the chemistry of the cake. The mousse and ganache have almost identical ingredients but what contrasting results. Yum, yum yum. :-) If you want to give it a try make sure you have 4 hours prep time and check out the recipe here.
