Then instead of heading back on the same route, we went through
Lyttleton. We read about the
island in the middle of this harbor that was used for a leper colony.

This area of Christchurch
does not see the sun at all during winter. They are in the shadow of the mountain and in winter the sun is so low that they stay in the mountain's shadow.

It was fun for the girls to drive through a
tunnel back to the centre of town.

And that was the
mountain we just drove under.
