Ruth always loves going into the Kiwi house. It's a nocturnal house, so the day and night are flipped around so that we can see them during our day. You are not allowed to use flash photography but I thought I would try get a shot. I have pumped a lot of light into the photo too, so the quality is not that great. But yeah - the photo was taken "at night". They are such amazing birds to watch and they are such big birds too (the photo does not give you
perspective of size
unfortunately).
The girls enjoyed the walk through
aviary too. Some beautiful birds to spot.
Then we walked through the
Kea enclosure. It was the first time Brendon had seen a
Kea and was amazed at their size as were we at
Willowbank earlier this year.
Another of Ruth's favorites is the monkeys. The one in the tree almost leaved over and grabbed from the top. It was so much fun to watch them.
Helping themselves.
We have been to
Orana so many times over the last year but have never been to see the kangaroos
or the
springbok. So it was nice to see them today.
Then it was time for the lion feed. It was not as exciting as the first one we watched a year ago when the one lion jumped
on top of the cage. But it was still great to see.
Another carnivore for Ruth to watch eating.
Rachel was not going to let Brendon get out of a ride on the flying fox this time.
It starts 2 stories up - so it's rather a high one. But loads of fun.
Hannah was only 1 and sleeping the last time we had a go and so she joined me for a ride today.
And a bit of time on the elephant before we leave. You can see why we were excited about seeing the live on at the Franklin zoo. :-)
Hannah thought this was such fun.
We had a wonderful day and it was special to celebrate the 13 years the Lord has given to us in marriage with the wonderful blessings He has given to us through those years. You girls are all so special and we love you so much.
