The girls just love boxes. When I ordered the apple peeler I had a few friends who also wanted to buy one, so we ended up ordering a whole box of them. Well, the girls found the box and had such a fun time. Ruth just loved Hannah sitting on her lap.
Rachel was VERY excited today as the copy of A Little Princess arrived in the mail. We had requested it from the National Library (a library we have access to because we are homeschoolers). But it is not in the Schools collection and had to be sent separately (they post books to us free of charge).
The date stamp is for the original library that it was a part of "Wanganui Public Library" and the date it was put in that library was 18 Jan 1927. So although sadly there is no publishing date in the book, we know it is more than 82 years old.
Rachel had Brownies this afternoon, so she did not get time to read. This motivated her to have the fastest bath ever so that she could get a little bit of reading in before bed.
What a special book.

She had read the "Classic Starts" abridged version of this book and so enjoyed it that she wanted to tackle the original. So this really is an original. (all 300 pages of it)
"A Little Princess
being the whole story of
Sara Crewe
now told for the first time
by Frances Hodgson Burnett".
There was a lovely introduction titled "The whole of the story" written by Frances Burnett explaining how the original Sara Crewe book was written and how this "whole" story was then written after a play was done from the book. It was interesting and funny and lovely to have the author "chat" to us about the writing of the book.
The funniest part: "People who live in the story one is writing ought to come forward at the beginning and tap the writing person on the shoulder and say, 'Hallo, what about me?'"
